Aizawl is the Capital and the largest city of Mizoram. It is situated on a mountain ridge at an altitude of 3,715 feet with the Tlawng river valley to its west and the Tuirial river valley to its east.
Aizawl is home to the state’s only airport with direct daily flights to Kolkata, Guwahati, Shillong, and Imphal.
The streets of Aizawl are more or less similar to other hill stations but have more zigzags and slopes. With shops and markets lined up on either side of the streets, a stroll through Aizawl offers a soothing experience.
But probably of all, a glimpse of Aizawl in the evening is most spectacular of all and the city appears like a galaxy sending out signals through lights to the wandering tourists. Durtlang Hospital or Aizawl Theological College located on the northern side of Aizawl offers the best bird’s eye view of the hill station.
Bara Bazar atDawrpuiVeng locality in the city is the place to catch the tribes of Mizoram in their traditional costumes. They are either selling produces or buying one.Buying a handicraft made of bamboo, tree roots, or cane from Bara Bazar will be the best memento to take back home.
Mizoram State Museum at Zarkawt area offers an insight into Mizo traditions, culture, and history. But to witness an actual Mizo village one will need to travel 12-km to Reiek Tourist Resort.
To experience the folkdance, music, and other cultural aspects, a visit to the Berawtlang Tourist Complex situated 7 km from Aizawl is a must.
