Mawsynram, 65 km from Shillong in the East Khasi Hills, receives the maximum rainfall in the world. It is known for the subtropical highland climate with an extraordinarily showery and long monsoon and a short dry season.
It rains and rains all day and almost all through the year, enveloping the surroundings in mist. The chilly winds that accompany the rains are something to experience.
Apart from your love for rain, you can visit several caves that contain remnants of a past that narrates the geographical history of the plateau. One famous cave named Mawjymbuin, best known for its breast shaped stalactite over a massive stalagmite is of special attraction tothose visiting Mawsynram.
